Our tours are based out of Cooke City, MT, 4 miles from Yellowstone National Park’s North East Entrance, nestled in the Beartooth Mountains at 7800 ft.
To our west is the Lamar Valley, which holds the highest concentration of bears and wolves in Yellowstone. Lamar Valley is also home to some of the best trout fishing in America; Slough Creek, Pebble Creek and Soda Butte Creek all flow into the Lamar River, which in turn flows into the mighty Yellowstone, all within a one hour’s drive of Cooke City.
To our east is the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway which travels 70 miles through the Absaroka and Beartooth Mountains into Sunlight Basin and on to Cody, Wyoming.
To the north is the Beartooth Highway, a road Charles Kuralt considered the most beautiful road in the world. This road weaves through the Beartooth’s, past countless lakes on its way to 11,000 ft. and then down to Red Lodge, MT.
This area represents some of the wildest and most beautiful country in America. It sits just outside of Yellowstone’s least visited entrance, providing an an escape from some of the over-crowding so common in summer.
Bozeman and Billings, MT, and Cody and Jackson, WY all have airports that serve Yellowstone visitors. While Cody is closest it also the smallest so it can be expensive. We recommend Bozeman or Billings. When a tour is booked we will send you an e-mail with directions and Hemingway-relevant points of interest along the way.
